i was being posed this question (sorry aliah, so long i know...) Is there any purpose in deriving a specific meaning behind such a cliche word as 'love' in the first place, when we all know it IS a cliche? Since when can feelings be defined in words? Isn't this, once again, a simplification of matters? netty thought : a typing of the word 'love' at www.dictionary.com may provide me with a definition of the cliche word 'love' and as i waited patiently (only, yes, i was rather disappointed to find only 7 definitions) for the results to come out i sat there staring into the void thought of all the Love that surrounds me it certainly is not simply A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness. or simply A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance. Sexual passion. Sexual intercourse. A love affair. or simply An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object. or simply A person who is the object of deep or intense affection or attraction; beloved. Often used as a term of endearment. or simply An expression of one's affection: Send him my love. or simply A strong predilection or enthusiasm: a love of language. or simply The object of such an enthusiasm: The outdoors is her greatest love. no, its simply not all of those; rather, it's ALL of those and yet more. So, is there any reason at all for any of us to come to a definitive term to explain the intricate concept of Love, despite the blardy cliche of it? Yes. Because we are but humans :) though our feelings may be difficult to express and define, we would like to have them defined. we want our feelings to be defined, we want our parameters to be drawn, we want that affirmation (of sorts, at least) that hey! i am feeling this way so i must be this, we want to know why is there that feeling that we feel, we want to know if we belong to a certain group somewhere somehow we want we want we want wants why then do we have self help books on interpreting Love or online quizzes on Love or you know, those magazine columns 'ARE YOU IN LOVE?' self tests with fancy scales and ratings and what nots yes, it may be a simplification of matters, but hey, arent we simply humans?
