come into my world
careful, dont trip now

It wasn’t planned. Well, ironically, it had been planned way before she had a fall -which was some time back. That fall left her with a fractured left arm and some broken bones somewhere on the right leg. And it wasn’t helping that her body cannot ingest calcium; tablet or capsule or what-have-yous.

So anyone would have imagined the pleased surprise on her face upon learning she could finally be given the opportunity to see again. Yes, she had been literally blind for way too long. Suffered in silence; for who could ever imagine life without vision. Endless trips to and fro the hospital: of ECGs, EEGs, EOGs and what-nots, all had finally been worthwhile.

_

“The moment she emerged out of the theatre, and learning she had to stay the night for precautionary observation,” he vivaciously recalled, “she said, ‘I want Netty to stay with me.’”

And that was that. The few hours I’d spent with her (and her, the very helpful sister) taught me aplenty lessons. Well for one, it had been an awfully long time since the three of us had a pyjama party! Heh. I learnt that patients’ drawstring pants can be oh-so-comfy. I learnt steps how to brush my own dentures in the future; should I ever have one. I learnt that there are many many many power points in the room that would enable me to type my lab report throughout the night. I learnt that one cannot ever shake the bad habit of another who is fond of suddenly waking up to ask “Belum tidur lagik?” I learnt that it felt/feels good to give & receive loving attention from loved ones. I learnt of Allah’s constant shower of blessings, both apparent and obscure; it’s only up to me to be aware of them lest they’d simply be forgotten.

I learnt that there was nowhere else I’d rather be on the night of 10th October than being there next to my very-manjaly-coughing grandmother.

In the rather cosy two-patient room, without the other bed occupied.

With that very cute holey-pirate-like eye covering over her right eye, I must say.

Indeed, it would mean that the festive season will be very much brighter for one lovely :)

Alhamdullillah

Praises only to You
